Spring Newsletter 2026

Spring is in full swing here on the Coast. Bursting perennials and bulbs,  fresh new leaves on the trees and our propagation house full of new starts!

Many Perennial Vegetables in our collection are more advanced due to our very mild winter this past year. Our Cutting Celery is over a foot tall along with our Egyptian Walking Onions . Their bulbils are still available for Spring planting. We have been holding mailing them to points east of us to prevent freezing in transit. As soon as it is safe to do so we will be mailing our back orders.

Our collection of self sowing Annual Vegetables is in good supply. Ready and easy to direct sow as soon as the snow is gone and night time temperatures are above freezing in your location. Here are some of our favourites:

A word about sucessful Herb germination.

One of the biggest mistakes with starting herbs from seed, is overwatering them. We keep our starts in trays in small inserts or pots. A simple trick is to lift up the tray from your bench. It should never be heavy, allowing your trays to dry out a bit before a light even watering. Here are some great garden additions from our favorites,  that are loved by the Bees !

Food Security is top of mind these days.

Our Grandparents Victory Gardens,  promoted during World War ll are once again looking like a good idea to implement again. 

Each one of us, who understands how delicious and nutritious home grown vegetables are, can do our part. If you don't have garden space, consider supporting Farmers Markets. Long distance transport of produce has become so expensive. We love trading our abundance with our neighborhood for things we don't have alot of. That goes for sharing advice, asking questions, and getting to know each other better!

I am also glad to hear how much indoor gardening is growing across the country. Even better, many of these new businesses are not using high chemical inputs and pesticides, which are so predominate in conventional agriculture. Three cheers for less toxins and less transport!
