Piracicaba Broccoli
Piracicaba Broccoli is very
rare. It is a rewarding variety to grow , each plant
providing an abundance of small sprouts, that are healthy
and delicious, lightly sauteed or steamed. My favorite
is cooked on the barbecue ! If you end up with too
many--a great problem to have !---- then blanch and freeze
your harvest for winter use. Each plant provides
multiple harvests. Grow in fertile soil, provide
nitrogen fertilizer and tolerates summer heat the best.
Planting time for early starts is soon, so don't delay
if you want to give it a try !

From Spring
Gold Farm
Shaman
Tobacco
For those of you who
appreciate Indigenous ways, the story of this sacred Tobacco, used
by Shamans in ritual, can now become part of our gardens. Christina
collected this seed herself and grows it in isolation on her
mountain top farm. The long lasting large pink ball flowers, stand
up in all conditions for weeks. We have also noticed, using
Nicotiana as a companion flower, stops insect damage in their
vicinity. This is due to their nicotine content. Please wear
gloves when handling.

From our Living Seed Bank
Marsha's Picks:
Nine Star Perennial Broccoli
Famous in Europe
and originally from England, it has now become Endangered. Perennial
in more moderate climates, with mulch protection thru deepest
winter. Multiple white florets start to grow in early spring from
established plants .
They look like small
cauliflowers but taste more like broccoli. Delicious raw or steamed.
This is a smaller seed packet.

Bullsheart
Bush Tomato
This beautiful solid fruit
needs good support. Originally received from the Abundant Life
Seed Foundation, which tragically burned down in the 1990's .
We have been protecting this Endangered heirloom ever since.
Sporting rugose foliage, which is narrow and sparse, indicates
this is a much older cultivar. This deep reddish pink tomato has
tender skins, meaty textured fruit, and a well balanced rich taste.
Part of our heirloom plant program for decades, we are pleased to
offer one of our favorites in our seed list !

Landis
Winter Lettuce
Now who can resist a
winter Lettuce? I first heard of Landis Winter in the 1990's but it
was difficult to find. So it means alot to me that Sarah at Grow
For It, is able to offer this unique weatherproof Butterhead
type. Great to extend the season in early spring or fall. Can direct
sow or start in flats. Ideal for cold frames, cloches, a greenhouse
or sun porch. Delicious and tender at the first leaves stage or the
mature heads.
