Colutea arborescens - This small shrub is covered with soft green oval leaves, followed by very showy yellow flower clusters starting in late spring. The seed pods are also very attractive bronze coloured bladders. Easily shaped into a small tree. The leaves are the source of a mild laxative, which is gentle in action. Plant in a warm sunny location with good drainage. The hard seeds can be scratched with sandpaper to break the seed coat and planted in a warm location in small pots ¼ inch deep.
