First discovered and grown by us in the early 1990s, Shipkas was smuggled out of Bulgaria from behind the Iron Curtain of Russian occupation sometime in the late 1970s. Now known as Bulgarian Carrot, this is a very productive and sturdy bush. The fruit is shiny orange, the shape is conical and the flesh is firm and thick. The taste is very intense with good heat and fruity overtones. Rated on the Scoville scale between 12000 to 30000 units. One of the best in cooler locations and does fine in pots. Great for roasting, pickling, salsa, and chutney. This fast grower is ready in 70 - 80 days. Part of our plant program since 2000. Now available as seed.
