Centranthus ruber
A European native, this very hardy perennial does well in all zones. The leaves are a green/blue colour topped with long lasting vivid red flowers on tall stems to 4 feet. Starts in late spring, grows well in containers, and prefers partial to full sun.
Related to the famous medicinal Valerian. Start the tiny seeds in spring using small flats, cover lightly and provide even moisture for good germination. The seeds are airborne by summer, and can naturalize so provide a spot where they can establish themselves. If you want to keep better control, deadhead the flower stalks just after blooming. Mature plants spread about 2 feet wide. Loved by butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. A farm favourite!
Hard to find, this is a smaller seed packet of about 20 seeds.
