This melon comes from a Trappist monastery near Oka Quebec. It was bred by crossing Banana and Montreal melons in 1910 and was grown by the monks for decades. Almost lost but rediscovered growing near Montreal in the 1960's. We are pleased to share this Canadian gem and thanks to our garden friend Shirley for helping us grow them.

Oka Melon is very hardy ready in about 80 days. The skins are light green with concentric ridges running top to bottom. Juicy rich tasting orange flesh which can also be dried and then it tastes like mangos!

Sow 1/4 inch deep in small pots in a warm location by mid spring. Transplant to a sunny spot once the soil is warm. We like planting them into a hollowed out saucer in the soil to make it easier to direct lots of moisture to their roots. Provide lots of compost. Packet size is 10 seeds.
